Grilling is a inseparable element of the summer holidays and generally summer season. Everybody does that, but is that ok? Do people who light the fire and hold the spatula always know what they are doing? Here are the five biggest mistakes that you should avoid, if you are not fancy having problems with neighbors, law or health.
Many people think that grilling is a piece of cake. It is just lighting the fire and putting some things on a grate. What can go wrong? As it turns out, lack of knowledge can lead to unpleasant consequences even in the simple matter of barbecuing.
5 biggest grilling mistakes
1. Unsuitable location
We shouldn’t put the grill in some random place, as there are numerous regulations regarding lighting the fire. It is forbidden to use a grill in most of public places. If you want to organize a barbecue, you should find a suitable place where it is actually legal, e.g. a boulevard. Balconies in blocks of flats are also places where it may be not so easy. Unless the estate council directs otherwise, grilling in such places is prohibited because it may be result in fire.
If a picnic is organized on a private plot or a permitted place, remember about maintaining the proper distance from trees, flammable materials and guests themselves, who would probably not like to breath in smoke.
2. Kindling
It is not true that the material used to start a fire doesn’t matter. All the dishes that we later consume are affected by this fire. Then, it is the best to buy a kindling in a shop or use twigs or unpainted wood. The worse idea is to use plastic waste.
3. Not cleaning the grate
There are many know-it-all “masters” of a grill that forget about cleaning the grate after a barbecue. It is then covered with a dried fat and leftovers, which are harmful for our health when put on fire. To protect yourself from unpleasant consequences, all you need to do is wipe the grate with a wet cloth or paper.
4. Grilling everything at the same time
The order is which you prepare foods shouldn’t be random. Meat needs more time than, e.g., zucchini to be ready. You should also think whether putting vegetables and fish on the grill together is a good idea, as they absorb the most aromatic smells.
5. Consuming burnt products
Just a moment of inattention and the sausages are covered with a black layer of coal. Consumption of such products is not healthy, because overcooking them results in production of carcinogenic substances. This is why it is important to grill your dishes on embers, not on fire.
Grilling is as simple as it looks, huh? Don’t worry! With proper preparation and experience, organizing picnics shouldn’t be a problem for anyone.
